There’s a lot of stuff going on in the haircare industry right now.
How do you feel when you go to the doctor? Or visit with another healthcare professional?
Do you feel empowered from your visit? Do you learn something from them?
Do they ask what you’ve done about your presenting issues? Do they explain what tests they are doing, what reasons they have for taking them? Do they have the knowledge to explain how the tests will be conducted?
Do they share their diagnostic thought-process with you? Do you even question how they arrived to their diagnosis? What if the medication or treatment you take doesn’t work, then do you question it?
After working in the Healthcare field for some time, and being a patient in it, I’ve answered “no” to most of these questions. I did not feel empowered when I went to the doctor. I didn’t know what questions to ask.
It wasn’t until I began learning about the body, diseases and other scientific tests that I began asking more questions and gaining a sense of empowerment. I began advocating for my health in order to use the system to my advantage instead of the system going on autopilot.
Start informing yourself as much as possible. Doctors and Healthcare professionals are people too and are not almighty knowledgeable beings. You can’t expect them to know everything, particularly everything going on in your world. Don’t be afraid or hesitate to ask questions, that’s why they are there.
